Why learn Popular Piano?

Tim categorises 'Popular' piano, as everything that is neither 'Classical' nor 'Jazz', making the 'Popular' genre difficult to define.

However, Tim considers 'Popular Piano' to be a combination of Top 40, Popular Hits, R&B, and Rock 'n' Roll, Musicals, Movie Themes and Incidental music plus more. The end result is a pot purri of current piano styles and flavours, incorporating often well known songs, tunes and pieces.

Students who are looking for a lesser structured style of piano playing, and prefer the current sound and nuances of modern piano, then this category is for you.

The first is that they are often simpler to learn, and do not require the expansive knowledge and theory required by other genres and grade levels. The second is that many of the tunes and melodies are already familiar to students, who prefer playing the piano for pleasure.
