What is Improvisation?
Improvisation is the art of 'mindless creativity'; the ability
to develop and build musical ideas as they come to mind.
There are a number of elements to Improvisation, from Mapping
and Skills, to Modal Development and Imagination.
In my recent book 'Impressionist Improvisations', I explore a
number of technical and emotive elements that are integral for
achieving a successful outcome.
Who Can Learn Improvisation?
Anyone with a free-spirit and a deep imagination. Whilst Improvisation
is similar to 'telling a story', it can also be limited by the
skill set of the musician.
Having said that, Improvisation is one of the most rewarding
forms of musical interpretation, since it goes to the very soul
of the pianist.
